Room×Lab Review · Review updated August 28, 2026

Owners of this black-and-white rug report easy washing, but black areas fading after weeks or months is the main risk

Room×Lab read 391 distinct written reviews of the black-and-white Gingham Plaid outdoor rug. They cover all its sizes, not only the 72 x 108-inch size shown here; 389 carry a verified-owner tag and 54 an incentivized tag. Reviews of the red-and-white version, sold as a separate listing, are not included. Owners describe porch, front-door, mudroom and backyard use. The reviews below were picked to show the main complaints in detail (fading, fit, stains and value) alongside two praise accounts; they are not a tally, and 316 of the 391 reviews give five stars.

Room×Lab rating: 7.5 out of 10 (limited confidence). Owners across all sizes rate this black-and-white rug 4.5 of 5 and often say machine washing or hosing works. Repeated reports of black areas fading after weeks or months, some on covered porches, hold the durability score down, though other owners report years of acceptable service.

  • Cleaning usually delivers: 107 favorable mentions; 14 concerns — Across Ruggable's 391 owner reviews of all sizes, owners often said machine washing or hosing worked, one after rinsing the rug from a very dirty yard. Fewer said ordinary outdoor stains stayed after washing, white areas stayed dingy, or doorway dirt passed through.
  • Fading is the key durability risk: 25 favorable mentions; 31 concerns — These counts cover all durability comments across all sizes. The concern that recurs is black areas changing color after weeks or months, including a rug on a mostly shaded covered porch that showed brown patches after about two months; washing did not fix it. Others report years of acceptable service, one with no visible fading after about two years.
  • Low-clearance fit works for many entries: 34 favorable mentions; 6 concerns — Among 41 size-and-fit comments across all sizes, owners commonly liked the low profile at doorways, on porches and as runners. Less favorable accounts described undersized pads, cover overhang, trip concerns, or a pattern scale larger than expected.

Before buying

Choose it for easy washing and a low-profile fit at a porch or door, but owners repeatedly report black areas fading, even under cover. Check that your washer takes a 72 x 108-inch cover and that the pad lines up.
