Room×Lab Review · Review updated September 1, 2026

Some charging nightstand owners value the hidden outlets, but cable-layout complaints clearly outnumber praise, and workmanship complaints recur across the Keane series

Room×Lab read 1,523 distinct written reviews of Crate & Barrel's Keane series, dated August 2016 through August 2026. They cover the black charging nightstand, charging nightstands in other finishes, and narrow nightstands, dressers, beds, desks, bookcases and consoles in several sizes and finishes, so the counts here describe the whole series. The reviews below are picked examples, not a tally: a detailed review of this black nightstand, recurring complaints about the charging cable and peeling edges, a delivery dispute, and two owners with more than a year of use.

Room×Lab rating: 7.3 out of 10 (medium confidence). Some charging nightstand owners value the hidden power, but the moving-drawer charging layout draws clearly more complaints than praise. Across the wider Keane series, strong satisfaction, useful storage and an appealing finish lift the score, while recurring workmanship complaints such as peeling edges cap it.

  • Finish usually impresses, but some owners find the color or shine differs: 454 favorable mentions; 174 concerns — Counted across all Keane pieces and finishes, finish is the most discussed attribute. Praise dominates; concerns cover color differences, roughness, shine and artificial-looking surfaces. A black charging nightstand owner kept the finish presentable with a weekly wipe-down.
  • Workmanship complaints outnumber praise across the series: 73 favorable mentions; 160 concerns — Counted across all Keane pieces. Many owners report sturdy construction, but a minority describe recurring, separate faults: peeling edge material, damaged joints, failed supports and loose hardware. One owner returned a whole bedroom set, including two nightstands, over peeling drawer edges and other workmanship problems.
  • Concealed charging draws clearly more complaints than praise: 5 favorable mentions; 88 concerns — Owners who like the charging drawer mention hidden power and tidier cables. The concerns cover separate problems: the heavy cable dragging when the powered top drawer opens, awkward cord routing, short cables, and one lightly used module that failed after about 18 months.

Before buying

Choose the black Keane for its two soft-close drawers and hidden outlets if you can live with a power cable that drags as the top drawer opens. Check drawer edges and finish on delivery, and ask what warranty covers the charging module.
