Room×Lab Review · Review updated August 29, 2026

Owners of both Desert Sumac versions praise its easy washing and design; a few report curling, fading or colors unlike the photos

Room×Lab read all 1,412 distinct written reviews of Desert Sumac on Ruggable, posted from August 2019 through July 2026; 1,407 came from verified owners. They cover both the Original Two-Piece Flatwoven rug and this Tufted All-in-One rug, and most were written before the Tufted version existed. Reviews of the separate cover and pad describe setup, padding, alignment and washing that may not apply to this one-piece rug. The reviews below show the most common praise and the main complaints about color, shifting and one early failure, so complaints appear more often here than among all reviews.

Room×Lab rating: 8.3 out of 10 (limited confidence). Desert Sumac owners, most writing before this Tufted version, average 4.73 stars and hundreds praise how it washes. The score is held back by colors that looked muted or unlike the photos, wash damage such as shrinkage and curling, and slow support replies; several concern the older two-piece rug.

  • Care and cleaning: 548 favorable mentions; 46 concerns — Across both versions, washing was the most praised trait. A much smaller group described shrinkage, fading, incomplete drying, stains that stayed, rugs too big for their washer, or trouble re-laying the rug; some of these involved the older removable cover.
  • Color and finish: 211 favorable mentions; 43 concerns — Across both versions, most owners who discussed appearance liked the design or finish. Critical reviews described colors as more muted, darker, redder or bluer than expected, or otherwise different from the photos.
  • Durability: 90 favorable mentions; 26 concerns — Across both versions, many owners said the rug kept its looks through use and washing. A few reported fading, shrinkage, peeling or early breakdown; the starkest is one older cover-and-pad rug whose edges curled and wore after a single wash, within three months.

Before buying

Most Desert Sumac reviews predate this one-piece Tufted rug. Check that your washer takes its 6-by-9-foot size, and judge the colors in your room soon after delivery: some owners found them unlike the photos, and eligible returns close 30 days after delivery.
