Soto Chair owners praise its supportive comfort and look, with caveats about stain mismatches, pointed arm corners and isolated frame failures

Room×Lab read all 439 distinct written Joybird reviews of the Soto Chair, posted from October 2014 through April 2026. They cover every fabric and wood choice of this chair together. Reviews of other Soto listings, including the apartment, concave-arm, leather, set, cushion and ottoman listings, are not counted here. Some owners describe a year or several years of use. The reviews below show the main complaints and two owners with a year or more of use; 369 of the 439 reviews are five-star.

Room×Lab rating: 8.1 out of 10 (medium confidence). Soto Chair owners consistently praise its supportive comfort and look, and its retailer rating is very high. Scattered reports of separating or broken frames, stain mismatches, fast fabric wear and slow help with problem orders keep it from scoring higher. The score rests on owner reviews, not hands-on testing.

  • Supportive comfort is the standout: 259 favorable mentions; 10 concerns — Owners most often describe a comfortable, supportive seat rather than a soft one you sink into. The 10 concerns involve firmness, an upright posture, or cushions that softened unevenly.
  • The look usually lands, but finish accuracy can miss: 147 favorable mentions; 27 concerns — Owners commonly like the color and overall look. The 27 concerns cover several separate finish problems: stain that didn't match across parts, blotchy stain that collected in spots, uneven lacquer, and scratches. One owner's walnut arrived much darker than the website showed.
  • Durability is favorable overall, not uniformly dependable: 39 favorable mentions; 11 concerns — Some owners say their chairs stayed comfortable and good-looking after a year or several years of regular use. The 11 concerns cover different problems in isolated reports: a front frame that began separating, other broken frames or joints, fabric that wore quickly, and cushions that softened unevenly.

Before buying

Some chairs arrived broken or with mismatched stain, and the pointed arm corners can bruise. Measure for the 30 in W × 36 in D chair, pick cleanable upholstery, and check frame, joints and stain within 14 days; made-to-order pieces can't be returned.
