Room×Lab Review · Review updated October 18, 2026

This chair's owners praise its comfort and swivel, as do other Axis chair owners; leather reports are few and split

Crate & Barrel's 3,441 ratings and average cover about 345 Axis listings, mostly sofas, sectionals and ottomans, and may include ratings without text. Room×Lab read 2,755 distinct written reviews; 29 concern Axis chairs. Nine are on this chair's listing; 20 are on the 40" Swivel Chair, 40" Chair and 40" Leather Chair listings, an older 2014–2024 Axis Swivel Chair listing (some Axis II, leather or fabric) and one sofa review. Many omit upholstery, size or use time. Other chair reviews, outside the 29, report a creaking swivel, lumpy fabric and a seat indenting within a month. Shown below: praise and a recline warning from this chair's owners, the one strongly negative chair account, a five-year report on a related Axis chair, and notes on work use and delivery.

Room×Lab rating: 7.0 out of 10 (medium confidence). Owners of this leather chair and related Axis chairs consistently praise its comfort, roominess and swivel, and that drives the score. The caveat is the leather: praise for it comes from short-term owners, and one owner of this chair reports early damage.

  • Comfort is the most consistent praise: 22 favorable and no critical mentions of comfort across Axis chair reviews, all star ratings. — Seven comfort reports come from the pictured leather listing, mostly brief; the rest describe other Axis chairs, often with unstated upholstery. Two owners call the seat firm, one also deep. One owner of a related 40" chair, upholstery unstated, still finds it comfortable for many body types after about five years.
  • Owners value the swivel, though the chair does not recline: 12 favorable mentions of the swivel and 1 critical mention that the chair does not recline, across all star ratings. — Owners turn it toward conversations, the TV or the kitchen; one says it helps with getting in and out. The critical mention, from a pictured-chair owner, is that it does not recline. Separately, two 40" Swivel Chair listing owners, fabric or unstated upholstery, report creaking, or squeaking and tapping, when turning.
  • Leather impressions are few and split: 4 favorable and 1 critical mention about the leather, across all star ratings. — On the pictured chair, one owner calls the leather buttery-soft after a month; another says a replacement arrived scratched and its leather peeled easily within about two months. One reviewer with a design-business handle, affiliation not stated, calls it top-notch; others praise the color or, at delivery, the Libby leather.

Before buying

Choose this chair for a roomy, comfortable seat that swivels freely if you don't need it to recline. Measure for its 40-by-41-inch footprint, and check the leather at delivery: one owner's replacement arrived scratched and peeled within about two months.
