Crate & Barrel Dawson Wood Dressers (6-Drawer 60" and 8-Drawer 65")

Room×Lab Review · Review updated September 29, 2026

On the 60" 6-drawer, shallow drawers draw repeated complaints, while Dawson dresser owners praise the soft-close drawers and solid feel

Crate & Barrel's 325 ratings and 4.5-star average cover several Dawson pieces, including nightstands, side tables and beds, not just dressers. Room×Lab read 286 distinct written reviews. Dresser reviews cover the 60" 6-drawer shown here, the 65" 8-drawer, and earlier Dawson dressers sold since 2014 in grey-wash, clove and dark-brown finishes. Older reviews often describe a grey-wash finish or earlier hardware. Many larger-dresser reviews don't state the size. Most dresser reviews were written within weeks or months of delivery; few describe a year or more of use. We picked both views of the 6-drawer's drawer depth, plus larger-dresser accounts of a frame failure, over a year of use and several faults.

Room×Lab rating: 6.5 out of 10 (limited confidence). Owners of the 60" 6-drawer repeatedly find its drawers shallow, while Dawson dresser owners like the look, soft-close drawers and solid feel. Few describe long-term use, and some report isolated frame, finish and support failures. The 4.5-star average also covers other Dawson pieces.

• Shallow drawers on the 60" 6-drawer: 15 favorable and 31 critical mentions about 6-drawer drawer depth and capacity. — Owners describe shallow drawers that hold few bulky items, and some returned or exchanged the dresser for this reason. One estimated about 4.5–5 inches of usable height. Others found the drawers fine for T-shirts, jeans and everyday clothes. A few of these comments come from reviews that don't name the size or that cover a larger Dawson dresser.
• Soft-close drawer action: 48 favorable and 10 critical mentions about soft-close or smooth drawer action. — Owners of both sizes single out quiet self-closing drawers, mostly in the first weeks or months. Individual reports describe glides that needed adjusting, caught or scraped, didn't finish closing, or felt slightly less smooth after more than a year.
• Solid feel versus isolated frame failures: 28 favorable and 9 critical mentions about sturdiness and structural failures. — Praise for heavy, well-built dressers is mostly early impressions. Single reports describe drawers sagging within about six months, cracked or shifting internal frame members and a broken drawer-connecting piece. Several come from larger dressers of unstated size. These are anecdotes, not a failure rate.

Before buying

Buy the 60" 6-drawer for its low, long profile, not bulky storage: its drawer interiors are listed at 4.12 inches tall. For roomier drawers, compare the 65" 8-drawer (6.37 inches), which two owners chose instead.
