Room×Lab Review · Review updated September 12, 2026

Dark Moss owners praise comfort and smooth turning, and one credits back support; across all fabrics, some find the seat stiff and the fabric rough

Room×Lab read 195 distinct written reviews of the Amber Swivel Chair from 2022 to 2026, covering standard, velvet, performance and customized upholstery bought as singles and pairs in the US, Australia and Singapore. The 4.9-star average and the counts below cover all fabrics, and each account names its fabric; Smoke Gray, Performance Smoke Gray and Meadow Yellow chairs may differ from Dark Moss in construction or production year. Reviews are marked as verified purchases, many were incentivized for text or photos, some reviewers bought more than one chair, and none describes several years of wear. Sofa-only and whole-order reviews are left out; sofas and tables have their own reviews. We picked the two Dark Moss reviews below, other-fabric accounts of the first sit and fabric feel, and the only 2-star review; 180 of the 195 reviews give five stars.

Room×Lab rating: 7.8 out of 10 (limited confidence). Dark Moss velvet owners praise the chair's comfort and smooth turning, and one credits its back support. Across all fabrics, firmness and fabric feel divide opinions, and while reviews span 2022 to 2026, no owner describes several years of wear.

  • Support appeals, but the first sit can disappoint: Across all fabrics, comfort and support drew 6 favorable and 4 critical mentions. — A Dark Moss owner praises the comfort and back support of the chair and included cushion. A Performance Smoke Gray pair felt stiff, softening only hoped for; a single in that fabric went from sunken to comfortable, and Meadow Yellow felt more supportive on a second sitting. Some reviews include both reactions; counts are mentions, not shares of owners.
  • Smooth turning has an older stability caveat: Across all fabrics, rotation and stability drew 4 favorable and 1 critical mention. — Dark Moss and Performance Smoke Gray owners praise the turning. A 2022 Meadow Yellow owner reports wobbling and a detached floor protector; separately, another Meadow Yellow owner reports floor stains when the chair was pushed. Neither says what caused it, so ask Castlery whether today's bases differ.
  • Fabric feel deserves a swatch check: Across all fabrics, upholstery feel drew 5 favorable and 5 critical mentions. — Performance Smoke Gray draws both soft and rough descriptions. Smoke Gray receives praise alongside roughness, slight itchiness and a tweedy feel. One Meadow Yellow owner covers the seat with satin while adjusting to its texture. These accounts are other fabrics and describe feel, not wear or stain resistance, so check a Dark Moss swatch.

Before buying

Choose the Dark Moss Amber for comfortable, compact swivel seating if a 17.7-inch seat height suits you. Ask for a swatch, since owners of other fabrics split on feel, and check it is not a clearance item, which cannot be returned.
