The Dune Sofa

Room×Lab Review · Review updated August 28, 2026

Dune owners across sizes and fabrics praise lounge comfort; flattening bench cushions, escaping feathers and pilling are the main cautions

Room×Lab read 141 distinct written reviews among Maiden Home's 148 Dune Sofa ratings, dated November 2018 through August 2024. They cover many Dune sofa and sectional sizes, fabrics and back-cushion styles, so the findings describe Dune sofas and sectionals in general; only a few speak to Desert chenille. Owners shown below had their Dunes from about three months to five years. We picked the longest-owned praise and the complaints that best explain back-cushion choice, pilling and cushion flattening, so the cards are not a vote: 111 of the 148 ratings are five stars.

Room×Lab rating: 7.4 out of 10 (medium confidence). Dune owners across sizes and fabrics mostly praise deep lounging comfort, sturdy frames and easy cleaning. The recurring but inconsistent caveats are bench cushions that flatten, feathers that escape and fabric that pills, plus backs some owners find stiff; only a few reviews describe Desert chenille.

• Comfort favors lounging, but back choice matters: 83 favorable; 16 critical — Across all Dune sizes and configurations, owners often praised soft, supportive lounging. Critical reports: classic backs too stiff, back pillows that never softened, scatter pillows that need daily rearranging or feel overstuffed, a bench cushion that lost middle support after about a year, and too much depth for upright sitting.
• Durability is usually praised, with meaningful cushion and fabric exceptions: 45 favorable; 14 critical — Owners across Dune sizes describe sturdy frames; one household's sofas looked nearly new after five years with children and dogs. Critical reviews name sagging or misshapen cushions, escaping feathers (one owner within three months), pilling (one chenille owner within months), fading and slipcovers that shift.
• Cleaning often succeeds, but fabric and cover handling change the outcome: 39 favorable; 7 critical — Owners across Dune fabrics often reported effective spot cleaning or laundering. Complaints included shrinkage, covers hard to remove, persistent stains, pilling and covers too large for home machines; results depend on the fabric and how the cover is made.

Before buying

Choose the Dune for lounging if you accept loose cushions that need fluffing; one owner's bench cushion flattened after about a year. Confirm doorway fit, try both backs if you sit upright, sample Desert chenille and budget for possible professional cleaning.
