Room×Lab Review · Review updated August 28, 2026

Skinny Fat owners praise the comfort and made-to-fit width, but sofa owners split on whether the cushions keep their shape

Room×Lab read all 252 distinct written owner reviews on BenchMade Modern's Skinny Fat pages, posted April 2017 through August 2026. The same reviews appear across the collection (sofas, loveseats, sectionals, bumper and chaise pieces, sofa beds and some beds), so the counts describe the collection, not this sofa alone. None is below four stars: 234 are five-star and 18 four-star; 35 were marked incentivized. BenchMade Modern's terms let it screen, remove or edit reviews, so weigh this record alongside the wider-web accounts. The reviews below were picked for detail, not as a vote: three Skinny Fat Sofa owners, a seven-year sectional owner and two sectional owners' four-star complaints.

Room×Lab rating: 8.1 out of 10 (medium confidence). Skinny Fat Sofa owners praise the comfort and made-to-fit width, but split on cushions: some held their shape for months, others lost it within two weeks. Retailer reviews across the collection average 4.9 from 253 ratings, none below four stars, and the store can screen or remove reviews.

  • Comfort is the clearest owner strength: 139 favorable mentions; 8 concerns — Covers every Skinny Fat piece, not just this sofa. Concerns include fit: a Skinny Fat Sofa owner found the seat fill too firm, another found upright sitting harder on the deep seat without extra back support, and others raised low-back and chaise support.
  • Durability looks promising but remains uneven: 23 favorable mentions; 9 concerns — Covers every Skinny Fat piece. Concerns include deformed cushions from too-firm seat fill on a Skinny Fat Sofa, pilling within about a month on a chaise sectional's Flavin Forest weave, possible chaise sagging, and an incorrect arm insert. These are isolated owner reports, not a collection-wide failure rate.
  • Service frequently helped resolve problems: 73 favorable mentions; 8 concerns — Covers every Skinny Fat piece. Owners describe help with sizing, materials, repairs, replacements and delivery fixes; one Skinny Fat Sofa owner had a delivery crack at a leg hole repaired promptly. A few BenchMade owners elsewhere describe slow escalation or uneven remedies.

Before buying

Choose the Skinny Fat Sofa for comfort and made-to-fit width if split cushion reports are acceptable: Forbes saw misshapen cushions and a failed zipper after over a year. Order swatches, compare both fills, and template the 23-inch seat depth and low back.
