Room×Lab Review · Review updated September 12, 2026

Oak owners praise the shelf and sturdiness; one reports finish loss within months, and scratching reports come from another listing

Room×Lab read 92 distinct written reviews of JAKOBSFORS coffee tables on IKEA. Most come from the oak listing or from another JAKOBSFORS listing whose finish owners don't name; one owner describes a brown table. Two reviews, about a dining table and availability, say nothing about performance. The reviews span finishes, countries and possibly older and newer versions, and some may come from the same household. Counts below are numbers of owners mentioning a topic, not failure rates. We picked two five-star accounts and four complaints that name a specific failure, two from the oak listing; 65 of 92 reviews give five stars.

Room×Lab rating: 7.1 out of 10 (limited confidence). Oak-listing owners praise the shelf, shape and sturdiness; one reports finish loss within a few months, and another received panels with failed glue. Owners of another listing report early scratching, though one reports none. Few owners describe how the finish holds up over several years.

  • Early scratching has a scratch-free counterexample: 1 favorable and 6 critical mentions. — These accounts concern another listing whose finish owners don't name. Scratching appeared after one day, three weeks and less than a month; other complaints give no time frame. One owner's replacement table scratched as well. The owner who reports no scratches doesn't say how long they have had the table.
  • Steadiness varies between reported experiences: 4 favorable and 5 critical mentions. — Owners of both the oak listing and another listing praise its sturdiness. Critical accounts on the other listing describe wobble, uneven standing or sideways movement; one owner added felt pads. One owner reports a leg that would not seat fully, so check each leg during assembly and test the table on your floor.
  • Shelf storage appeals; sofa fit needs measuring: 7 favorable and 4 critical mentions. — Owners across both listing groups praise shelf storage and placement. Some find the footprint compact; others find it generous or want a larger diameter. Height praise conflicts with requests for more height, and one owner moved the table because it sat too low beside their couch.

Before buying

Choose the oak JAKOBSFORS for its shelf and round shape if you accept one oak owner's finish loss within months and early scratching on another listing. Check the 16 1/2-inch height against your sofa, examine panels on arrival and seat every leg fully.
