Madera owners praise the slim, sturdy build and assembled arrival, but many find the upper drawers shallow and legal-size-only filing limiting

Room×Lab read all 117 distinct written reviews of Article's Madera 12-inch file cabinet, posted from January 2018 through July 2026. Article shows reviews of similar finishes together, so they cover Oak, Chestnut and earlier versions of the cabinet, and the 176 star ratings span the same finishes. Owners mainly cover fit beside or under a desk, drawer capacity, filing format, delivery condition and support; few report long-term use. The reviews below show the most common praise and complaints, plus less common reports about the bottom drawer and a damaged delivery.

Room×Lab rating: 7.1 out of 10 (limited confidence). Madera owners praise its sturdy feel, compact footprint and assembled arrival. Recurring complaints about shallow upper drawers and legal-size-only filing, plus few reports of long-term use, hold the score back. Ratings and reviews cover Oak, Chestnut and earlier versions.

  • Slim footprint, limited storage: 35 favorable mentions; 45 concerns (across finishes) — Owners often liked how it fit beside or under a desk. Recurring complaints say the 12-inch width, 1.5-inch-high upper drawers and fixed legal-size filing leave little practical storage, and one Oak owner moved it beside the desk because it cut knee room underneath.
  • Ready-to-use arrival: 16 favorable mentions; 10 concerns — Owners commonly appreciated receiving the cabinet fully or nearly fully assembled. The few concerns involved damaged or missing caster-related parts rather than difficult assembly; one Oak owner blamed a badly damaged arrival on shipping with the casters installed.
  • Uneven issue resolution: 3 favorable mentions; 4 concerns — Some owners got useful help from support with caster locks, replacement parts or returns. Others describe replacements that arrived late, returns that cost them money, or uncertainty after damage.

Before buying

Choose the Oak Madera for its slim, sturdy build and assembled arrival if 1.5-inch upper drawers and legal-size-only filing suit you. If it will sit under a desk, check the 60-pound cabinet's fit and your knee room first.
