Owners like the compact, sturdy form, but some found it too dim for reading and the shade hard to remove

Room×Lab read all 207 distinct written reviews among the 300 ratings Article shows for the Perforate lamp. Article displays Black and Brass reviews together, so the counts and the 4.58-star average cover both finishes, and each owner account below names its finish. The reviews are dated March 2019 to May 2026; one Brass owner wrote after about 18 months of use. The reviews below show the praise owners give and the complaints they raise, from low light and a stubborn shade to a failed switch.

Room×Lab rating: 7.5 out of 10 (medium confidence). Black and Brass owners, rated together on Article at 4.58 stars, praise its compact, sturdy form and patterned light. The caveats: some found it too dim for reading yet glary from some angles, isolated reports describe switch or lamp failure after about 18 months, and service accounts are evenly split.

  • Compact footprint, with some sizing surprises: 26 favorable size-and-fit mentions; 6 concerns, across Black and Brass reviews — Owners generally liked the compact size and the choice of table or wall placement, though isolated comments found it larger or smaller than expected. Check the 5-inch height and 5.75-inch diameter against your spot rather than judging from photos.
  • Shade and bulb access can be awkward: 7 favorable assembly mentions; 12 concerns, across Black and Brass reviews — Most assembly accounts were manageable, but concerns outnumber favorable mentions: some owners struggled to remove the rotate-to-lock shade or relock it after reaching the bulb. One Black owner got the shade off, then could not make the supplied bulb or their own bulbs light.
  • Owners split on value: the design versus brightness and cost: 14 favorable value mentions; 16 concerns, across Black and Brass reviews — Owners who called it worth the cost pointed to the unusual design; concerns tied the price to low brightness, the feel of the materials, shipping charges, or how long it lasts.

Before buying

Choose the Black Perforate for twinkly ambient light, not reading light; owners describe low output. Check the 5-inch height, buy wall hardware separately to mount it, and expect a rotate-to-lock shade some owners struggle to remove.
